AI Dubs Charlie Kirk's Killer 'Right-Wing'
Plus, NYU axes 10/7 FedSoc event over security concerns
Leading AI platforms, which have emerged as a significant American news source, claim that Charlie Kirk’s killer, Tyler Robinson, was right-wing, citing Kirk’s assassination as an example of right-wing violence.
A new Free Beacon analysis found that OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Google Gemini, and Perplexity listed Kirk’s murder as an example of a “recent assassination in the U.S. motivated by right-wing ideology.”
They had a harder time nailing down well-documented incidents of left-wing violence. Perplexity, for example, said attempts to assassinate Donald Trump were “not clearly categorized by authorities as acts of left-wing violence.” ChatGPT contended that, “unlike many right-wing extremist movements, left-wing ideologically motivated assassinations are exceptionally rare in U.S. history in the contemporary era.”
“The chatbots’ descriptions of Kirk’s murder—and about political violence in general—raise questions about misinformation and anti-conservative political bias in AI programs,” our Alana Goodman writes.
New York University’s Federalist Society chapter wanted to hold an event on Oct. 7 with the conservative legal scholar Ilya Shapiro, a critic of anti-Israel protesters and the university administrators who have coddled them. But NYU axed the event, our Aaron Sibarium reports, “because administrators feared that protesters would disrupt it.”
On September 10th, emails show, NYU asked leaders of the school’s FedSoc chapter to change the date of the event and hold it in a basement space with added security, citing “an increased likelihood of demonstrations and protests connected to the anniversary of the October 7, 2023, incidents in Gaza.” When the student organizers agreed to change the location but not the date, NYU administrators said they didn’t have the security “resources” to host Shapiro at all on Oct. 7, though the school is slated to host a seven-hour symposium on “social entrepreneurship, impact investing, and sustainable development” the same day.
“The cancellation has raised concerns about the heckler’s veto,” writes Sibarium, “and comes as the White House anti-Semitism task force has vowed to investigate NYU, which last year settled a lawsuit alleging that the university failed to crack down on unsanctioned anti-Israel protests.”

You may recall the Israeli Harvard business school student who was accosted by student activists at a campus protest in October of 2023. Harvard said nothing about the incident, even as criminal charges were brought against two graduate students, and new text messages unveiled by the House Education Committee provide insight into the school’s silence.
In one message, Harvard president Alan Garber blamed the student, who was using his cell phone to capture the protest on video, for his own assault. He wrote that while he was “technically within his rights,” the “way he was taking videos appears provocative.” Garber urged Harvard Business School dean Srikant Datar not to send a schoolwide message about the assault. Datar took the advice, indicating that such a message would make Middle Eastern and North African students “very upset.”
The Trump administration announced on Monday that it’s referring Harvard to the Health and Human Services office that deems universities ineligible for federal grants.
