Kamala Harris Buys $8.2 Million Seaside Mansion After Warning ‘Sea Levels Are Rising’ Due to ‘Climate Crisis’
Plus, Mamdani's housing czar trashes 'white, middle-class homeowners'
Kamala Harris warned in 2023 that to “live in a coastal community is to live on the front lines of the climate crisis.” The failed presidential candidate is reporting for duty: She and her husband, Doug Emhoff, purchased an $8 million oceanside mansion in Malibu.
The purchase, our Thomas Catenacci writes, “calls into question Harris’s earnestness when discussing the threats posed by what she calls the ‘climate crisis.’” During her short-lived presidential campaign, Harris warned that “sea levels are rising” because humans are “poisoning the planet.” In the Senate, she cosponsored the Living Shorelines Act, which called to earmark $50 million annually for combating rising sea levels because they threaten “thousands of coastal communities and economies.” And the Biden-Harris administration released a climate model that says the beach that’s a short walk from Harris’s new pad will be significantly damaged by sea level rise.
Harris doesn’t appear to be bothered by those risks. Her new home is “perched in a prime coastal location” with “breathtaking ocean views,” according to a real estate listing we reviewed. It also features some of the luxuries—like a gas-powered stove and fireplace—that the Biden-Harris administration targeted with burdensome regulations.
Zohran Mamdani’s housing czar described “white, middle-class homeowners” as a “huge problem” and said her goal is to “undermine the institution of homeownership,” the Free Beacon‘s Jon Levine reports.
“White, middle-class homeowners are a huge problem for a renter justice movement,” Cea Weaver said during a 2021 appearance on Briahna Joy Gray’s Bad Faith podcast. “Unless we can undermine the institution of homeownership and seek to provide stability in other ways, I don’t know—it’s a really difficult organizing situation we find ourselves in.”
The previously unreported comments are likely to fuel the growing backlash over Weaver’s radical views as she takes on a senior role in the Mamdani administration. Weaver has faced criticism for denouncing private property and homeownership as “weapons of white supremacy” and calling to “impoverish the *white* middle class.”
Democrats who care about winning elections are begging their leaders to ignore the screeching activists calling to abolish ICE, a demand that led to electoral defeat in years past. “It’s not going very well,” writes our Andrew Stiles.
Two left-leaning advocacy groups published memos this week urging Democrats not to get swept up in the frenzy of anti-ICE rhetoric unleashed after an ICE officer shot and killed Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis. The Searchlight Institute, a think tank founded by former Sen. John Fetterman (D., Pa.) adviser Adam Jentleson, thought it was necessary to remind Democrats that “advocating for abolishing ICE is tantamount to advocating for stopping enforcement of all of our immigration laws,” a policy that is “wrong on the merits and at odds with the American public.”
The message has fallen on deaf ears. Left-wing activists demanded ICE be dismantled in the wake of Good’s death, and prominent Democrats were quick to echo the call. Rep. Delia Ramirez (D., Ill.) responded directly to the Third Way memo urging Democrats to drop the phrase. “Fine!” she wrote. “Abolish ICE AND DHS.” Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D., Mass.) argued this week that ICE could not be reformed and urged Congress to withhold funding for the agency.
Democratic candidates running in contested primaries were eager to express their solidarity. Graham Platner, the Nazi-adjacent candidate running for U.S. Senate in Maine, has repeatedly argued that ICE should not exist and called for its agents to be prosecuted. “People need to go to prison,” he said in November. Abdul El-Sayed, the Hamas-adjacent candidate running for U.S. Senate in Michigan, wrote last week that ICE was not a “law enforcement” agency. “So like I said in 2018: Abolish ICE.”
Good luck to all!

The U.S. military began evacuating personnel and equipment from Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar on Wednesday. The move comes as President Trump “increasingly believes he must take decisive action against the [Iranian] regime amid a violent and deadly crackdown on protesters,” per CNN.
Over in Latin America, Trump’s removal of Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro has forced China “into a high-stakes recalculation of its ambitions in a region that looks like America’s backyard again,” according to the Wall Street Journal. China spent years convincing Latin American countries to trade support for Taiwan in exchange for Beijing-funded infrastructure projects.
The Biden administration spent billions of taxpayer dollars electrifying the U.S. Postal Service’s vehicle fleet. The new vans cost $22,000 more than other electric alternatives—and only about 6 percent have been delivered.
Control of the Senate following this year’s midterm elections could very well hinge on Michigan, where Republican Mike Rogers holds a narrow lead over Democratic congresswoman Haley Stevens and a larger one over left-wing challengers Mallory McMorrow and Abdul El-Sayed, according to a new poll commissioned by the Detroit News.
