‘Moderate’ Mikie Sherrill Meets With Imam Who Faced Deportation Proceedings Over Alleged Hamas Ties

New Jersey’s Democratic governor, Mikie Sherrill, who ran as a “moderate,” visited a local mosque on Friday whose cofounder was convicted of funneling money to Hamas. She met with a cleric who has called for a “new intifada” and faced deportation proceedings over his own alleged ties to the terror group, our Chuck Ross reports.
Sherrill, sporting a head covering, visited the Islamic Center of Passaic County for Ramadan services, photos posted to social media show. She met with Imam Mohammad Qatanani and described the mosque as a “community with the five pillars of Islam that is constantly looking to do good works.”
But Qatanani has espoused violent anti-Israel views. He said at a Times Square rally in 2017, “No peace process and negotiation without liberation in Palestine. We have to start a new intifada. Intifada, intifada!” An Israeli jury convicted him in 1993 of being a member of Hamas, according to court filings from the Department of Homeland Security, prompting federal officials to file several deportation cases against him. The mosque’s cofounder, Mohammad El-Mezain, was convicted in 2009 of funneling money to Hamas through the Holy Land Foundation.
Sherrill, a Naval Academy graduate and former congresswoman, has described herself as a moderate and was a member of the Blue Dog Coalition on Capitol Hill. Like her friend Abigail Spanberger in Virginia, Sherrill is raising serious questions about whether there is any such thing in the Democratic Party.

As Harvard faces a lawsuit from the federal government over “relentless antisemitic on-campus discrimination,” the university’s FXB Center for Health and Human Rights “co-sponsored an event with a boycott-Israel advocacy group in which a Harvard researcher accused Israel of ‘genocide’ in Gaza,” Free Beacon senior writer Ira Stoll reports.
The online event from the Jewish Voice for Peace Health Advisory Council took place two days after the Justice Department announced the suit and featured Harvard “bioethicist” Bilal Irfan as its main speaker. Irfan spoke of “Israel’s policy of destroying the health system,” which he said was part of the Jewish state’s “genocidal aims.” He made no mention of the Oct. 7 Hamas terror rampage, referring instead to Oct. 28, 2023, as “three weeks into the genocide.” He demonized Israeli doctors as “pro-genocide,” accusing Israel of “sexual violence against children” and of detaining children “in small cages.” He concluded by urging attendees to “continue advocacy in your personal and professional lives.”
Harvard’s anti-Semitism task force singled out the FXB Center, which sits within Harvard’s T.H. Chan School of Public Health, for presenting “a demonizing view of Israel and Israelis.” Stoll writes:
As Robert Friedman, who graduated from Harvard Divinity School in 2024, noted in a November 18, 2025, report on a previous FXB webinar, the task force report described the FXB webinars about Gaza as “characterized by bias and misinformation,” noting, “The accumulation of dis- and misinformation of this kind about Israel is a form of demonization, and we were told it was experienced as such by Israeli and Jewish members of our campus community.” Said Friedman, “When a webinar like this is presented even after students have complained about the series and after a presidential task force has faulted them—and even after Harvard became subject to lawsuits and federal investigations for antisemitism—it raises questions of institutional intent.” That observation applies a second time around, and with emphasis, again, here.
Former CBS News “Justice Correspondent” Scott MacFarlane said he left the network in pursuit of “independence”—then joined MeidasTouch, the left-wing media company that was founded as an anti-Trump PAC. MacFarlane announced the move on Monday, just days after he abruptly quit CBS. He was reportedly “disillusioned with the overall direction of the network” under new controlling shareholder David Ellison and editor in chief Bari Weiss, who have committed to providing more objective news coverage. MeidasTouch, he said, will allow him to engage in more “independent” and “unfiltered” reporting. Uh huh.
If by “independent” MacFarlane meant “left-wing clickbait,” MeidasTouch is a great fit. It spent more than $4 million in 2020 on door-to-door canvassing and television ads to stop Trump’s reelection, including an ad accusing Trump of “mass murder” for his handling of the coronavirus pandemic. As MeidasTouch beefed up its media operations, it changed its name to Democracy Defense Action, which remains active and spent nearly $300,000 in 2025.
MeidasTouch’s online news coverage is also unabashedly left wing. It’s known for dramatic headlines like “Trump’s HEALTH CRASHES in WAR as 25th AMENDMENT DEMANDED“ and “Trump HIT BY KARMA in WAR as TABLES ARE TURNED!!!“ “Scott MacFarlane Reports” will be a daily show, and McFarlane said he and MeidasTouch “have long shared this same philosophy: You don’t platform lies, you don’t platform conspiracy theories, and you don’t allow for the whitewashing of history.” Good luck to him!

Last week, Chicago police announced that an “unknown male offender” had approached a group of Loyola University Chicago students walking near Lake Michigan before displaying a gun and opening fire, killing 18-year-old Sheridan Gorman. That “unknown male,” according to the Department of Homeland Security, is an illegal immigrant from Venezuela whom the Biden administration “released into the country” in May 2023 and was arrested for shoplifting in Chicago a month later.
